San Juan Mountain Snowshoeing Elopement: Ouray, Colorado

When S and A decided to elope, they knew they wanted something unique, personal, and reflective of who they are as a couple so they chose the stunning San Juan Mountains in Colorado.

The day began slowly, in the warmth and comfort of their own home. There was no rush, no pressure—just two people quietly preparing for a meaningful moment in their lives. They took time to write their private vows to one another, sharing a calm and intimate moment. The quiet of that morning set the tone for everything that followed.

Next we made the scenic drive through the fresh snow in the mountains, heading for a favorite spot on Red Mountain Pass just above Ouray. The journey was beautiful, with the snow-covered peaks of the San Juan Mountains creating the perfect backdrop for their adventure elopement. Upon arrival, they finished getting ready in the open air, with towering mountain peaks surrounding them. The landscape was breathtaking, and as they put on final touches, the sense of solitude and beauty was overwhelming.

From there, we strapped on snowshoes and began our trek through the snow-covered slopes, looking for the perfect spot for their ceremony. It didn’t take long to discover a small valley, tucked away and completely private, where the mountains stood tall behind them. In this quiet, untouched corner of the world, S and A exchanged their vows.

After the ceremony, we made our way back to the car and ventured further up the mountain, where we found a stunning viewpoint. There, they shared their first drink as a married couple—popping champagne to toast the beginning of their new life together. The stillness of the mountains, the fresh air, and the sense of adventure made the moment feel like something out of a dream. Though they would later gather with friends and family for a formal celebration, these quiet, intimate moments spent in the wild were the heartbeat of their day.

As a photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting countless weddings and elopements, but there’s something about an adventure elopement like S and A’s that feels truly special. There’s a raw, authentic quality to the way they chose to commit to one another in the midst of nature. No crowds, no distractions—just two people in love, surrounded by the magnificence of the San Juan Mountains. It’s a privilege to capture these quiet moments and celebrate the joy of couples who choose to have their most meaningful memories in the heart of the wilderness.
